… What makes “it” Fine-Art Photography vs Photojournalism or Commercial Photography?
Fine-Art Photography is a visual representation of the photographer’s interpretation of … whatever the subject may be. The Photographic Print is the visual statement of Photographer’s voice. This stands in contrast to photojournalism, which is intended to be an objective – truthful visual account of the subject at that moment. Somewhere between the two genres is commercial photography, which is part truthiness and client directed representation to advertise, promote and sell products or services not the cameraman’s original image.
As an extension of the above statement, Fine-Art Photography comes in many forms and genre of photography. The image can be digitally captured or with “film”. The image can be manipulated and printed to a any media to enhance the visual statement. The non negotiable element is “the intent to present a personal visual statement”.
I choose traditional monochromatic film and the Silver Gelatin print as my tools to convey my visual statement because of it is visually succinct.
