When making the choice to own art, “love how it makes you feel” !
To have said … “it speaks to me” or “it moves me” or “it inspires me” is to have experienced art .
Art is engaging, Art evokes an emotional response. The desire to own art is a legitimate and powerful response to the attraction and emotional connection it provides.
How art is made is irrelevant, all that matters is the emotion it provokes. Photography’s inherent connectedness to the reality and the truth of light, lens and film magnifies the emotional response in ways that other art forms cannot. A photograph by definition is a physical representation of light, reality captured in the moment that film is exposed.
Since Y2K the “definition of photography” has been challenged by digital image capture and ease of image manipulation. Photography as an Art should only be judged by what it communicates and the emotional impact / response it provokes… does it speak to you? Photography’s relationship to reality has been blurred in exchange for an expanded definition of emotional provocation.
My love affair with photography dates back almost 60 years to filament flash bulbs, a 4×5 speed graphic and a 1950’s roll film camera … within this web based gallery is a mix from the past 55 years of photography. The tools and technology used today are a mix of old and new, the motivation to explore emotional connection to a subject remains the same, sharing how I see the world is in the print.
